NTPC & SAIL Launch Biomass Pellet Supply Tender in Odisha
In a major move, NTPC and SAIL, through their joint venture, have invited a biomass pellet supply tender for their power plant located in Sundargarh, Odisha. Earlier, most tenders used to be focused in the NCR region, but now opportunities are expanding into other states like Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and now Odisha.

Daily Supply Requirement: 56 Metric Tons

Who Can Participate?
Existing Manufacturers – Can offer more than 20 MT per day
Future Manufacturers & Traders – Limited to a maximum of 20 MT per day
Aggregators – Can also apply
This tender is flexible for both small and large players in the biomass industry.
EMD (Earnest Money Deposit) Details
For Future Manufacturers/Traders (up to 20 MT/day): ₹5 Lakh
For Larger Bidders (30–40 MT/day): ₹10 Lakh
MSME Registered Units are exempted from EMD
EMD can be submitted via bank transfer or BG (Bank Guarantee).
Price Benchmark
The Ministry of Power has fixed a base price of ₹8/kg (including GST). This includes:
₹7.29 for biomass pellet cost
Transportation charges are to be added by the supplier
Important: Rates below the base price will not be accepted.
Technical Specifications
Pellets must be made from agriculture residue
Must not be torrefied
Moisture content should be less than 14%
Minimum GCV (Gross Calorific Value): 2800 Kcal/kg
Acceptable range: 2800 to 3400 Kcal/kg
Diameter and other specs must meet standard norms
